On Tuesday, SBI provided details of electoral bonds to the EC in digital format. However, it remains undisclosed whether the data contains unique bond numbers for each transaction. As previously reported by The Indian Express, officials at the Commission will scrutinize the data upon the return of Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar from Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night.
In a ruling on Monday, the apex court dismissed SBI’s plea for an extension to furnish details of bond buyers and the political parties that utilized them. Instead, the court instructed SBI to deliver the data to the EC by the end of business hours on Tuesday. Furthermore, the court demanded an affidavit from SBI’s Chairman and Managing Director affirming compliance with its directives, cautioning of potential legal action should the bank fail to adhere to the specified timelines established in Monday’s order.
