An unsettling incident unfolded in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, where two young brothers, Ayush (13) and Honey (6), met a tragic end at the hands of a local barber named Sajid (30) on Tuesday night, sparking unrest in the vicinity.
In a swift turn of events, about two hours later, Sajid was reportedly shot dead in an alleged encounter with the police. UP Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar stated that Sajid was fatally shot after he purportedly opened fire on the pursuing police team.
The motive behind the gruesome act remains murky, as noted by Inspector General of Police, Bareilly range, Rakesh Singh. An FIR has been lodged against two individuals, Sajid and his brother Javed, based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, Vinod Singh, at the Civil Lines Police station. They have been charged under IPC sections 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), 302 (murder), and 307 (attempt to murder), with authorities investigating Javed’s potential involvement.
The narrative unfolded in Baba Colony, within the jurisdiction of Civil Line police station, where Sajid’s shop neighbors the boys’ residence. The boys’ father works as a contractor, while their mother operates a beauty parlor.
On Tuesday around 7:45 pm, Sajid reportedly visited Singh’s residence. At the time, Singh was said to be absent, and his wife was attending to her beauty parlor duties. The boys were at home with their paternal grandmother. Allegedly, while Singh’s mother stepped away to prepare tea, Sajid ascended to the third floor where the boys were playing with their brother Piyush (8). He wielded a sharp-edged weapon, mercilessly attacking the innocent boys and inflicting fatal injuries.
Piyush, though injured, managed to flee and raise the alarm, prompting Sajid to flee the scene. However, the pursuit ended tragically for Sajid in the Shekupur area, approximately 7 kilometers from the victims’ residence, where he was fatally shot by law enforcement.
The heinous act incited public outrage, leading to the vandalization and arson of Sajid’s shop along with two adjacent makeshift shops. Additional police forces were deployed to restore calm amidst the tumultuous situation.
