Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the liquor policy case has sparked a strong reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with party MP Manoj Tiwari stating that only “gangs” run from inside the prison. Tiwari claimed that the people of Delhi are celebrating Kejriwal’s arrest by distributing sweets, alleging that the AAP chief had plundered the national capital.
“He has devoted his life to plunging Delhi into misery. The people of Delhi are extremely aggrieved with him, which is why sweets were distributed after his arrest. His government has achieved nothing in Delhi except filling their own pockets. Kejriwal has robbed Delhi,” Tiwari told ANI.
Latest: Arvind Kejriwal Asserts Will Govern from Jail if Necessary
Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest on Thursday night marks him as the incumbent chief minister to be incarcerated. Despite this development, AAP asserted on Friday that Kejriwal will persist as the Chief Minister of Delhi and will operate the government from behind bars.
The BJP, on the other hand, has called for Kejriwal’s resignation on moral grounds, with Tiwari emphasizing that only criminal gangs operate from jail, not legitimate governments.
AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj countered, stating that the party’s stance is for Kejriwal to remain in his position, emphasizing Kejriwal’s adherence to public sentiment in making significant decisions. He highlighted the support garnered from MLAs, councillors, and the public, affirming Kejriwal’s continuation as CM.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra asserted that Kejriwal’s arrest was the consequence of his corruption. Patra pointed out Kejriwal’s legal battles, asserting that the lack of relief from various courts indicates his culpability. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh condemned the arrests of both Champai Soren and Kejriwal as attacks on democracy and the constitution.
Kejriwal’s remand to ED custody until March 28 was ordered by a Delhi court on Friday. AAP has called for protests against his arrest, with security arrangements in place by Delhi Police for the demonstration at Shaheedi Park.
