A total of 1,210 candidates are set to contest elections across 13 States/Union Territories in the second phase of the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
In this phase, 2,633 nomination forms were filed for 88 Parliamentary Constituencies (PCs) spanning 12 States/UTs. Out of these, 1,206 candidates from 12 States/UTs, along with 4 candidates from Outer Manipur PC, will be vying for victory in the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
The nomination process for the second phase concluded on April 4, 2024. Following scrutiny, 1,428 nominations were deemed valid. The deadline for withdrawal of candidature across all 12 States/UTs was April 8, 2024.
Kerala recorded the highest number of nominations, with 500 candidates contesting from 20 Parliamentary Constituencies, followed by Karnataka with 491 nominations across 14 PCs. Conversely, Tripura saw the lowest number of nominations, with only 14 candidates contesting from one PC.
Notably, the Nanded Parliamentary Constituency in Maharashtra received the highest number of nominations at 92.
It’s noteworthy that the Outer Manipur PC will witness elections in two phases. Fifteen Assembly Constituencies (ACs) will go to polls on April 19, 2024 (Phase 1), while 13 ACs will go to polls on April 26, 2024 (Phase 2). The Gazette notification issued on April 5, 2024, confirmed four contesting candidates from Outer Manipur PC.
