While no official statements have been issued by either party regarding Balwinder Kaur’s arrest, leaders have begun expressing their sentiments as the parliamentary elections draw near.

Congress MLA from Faridkot, Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, took to ‘X’ platform to condemn the arrest, questioning the legality of preventing a mother from advocating for her son’s transfer to a Punjab jail. Dhillon’s sentiments were echoed by Congress leader Barinder Singh, who decried the arrests as a violation of human rights and the Indian Constitution. Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Bhullar also joined the chorus of criticism, urging clarification from Bhagwant Mann’s administration on past instances of alleged silence over similar issues.

Former SAD MLA Virsa Singh Valtoha and former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra added their voices to the dissent, lambasting the Punjab government’s actions. Chandumajra questioned the justification behind arresting a mother advocating for her son’s release, while Valtoha warned against repeating historical oppressions against Sikhs, drawing parallels with former Chief Minister Beant Singh’s regime.
