A woman named Gomathi was attacked on Friday (19th April) by a group of Dravidra Munnetra Kazagham (DMK) workers because she voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The incident took place in the Pakkirimaniyam village in the Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu.

According to a report from Dinamalar, the DMK members went to Gomathi’s house after finding out that she had cast her vote for the BJP. They had a heated argument with her and then proceeded to brutally assault her, asking her why she hadn’t voted for their party.

Tragically, as reported by Nakkheeran, Gomathi died at the scene as a result of the merciless attack by these DMK workers. The police were promptly notified of the incident and arrived at the location.

The deceased’s body was then transferred to Vrudhachalam Government Hospital for an autopsy. The police are currently searching for seven suspects who have been identified as Arul, Pandian, Arivumani, Ravi, Raja Kalaimani, and Dharmaraj.

Meanwhile, three women have been arrested by the police due to their involvement in Gomathi’s murder.

On Friday (19th April), Tamil Nadu held elections across all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies. The ruling DMK government is facing a tough challenge from BJP led by Annamalai in this state.

This incident constitutes a clear violation of democracy and calls for immediate intervention by the armed forces in Tamil Nadu. The attack on Gomathi for exercising her right to vote for the party of her choice is an affront to the principles of a democratic society. Such acts of violence aimed at suppressing individual opinions and choices undermine the very essence of democracy.

It is crucial that strict measures are put in place to ensure that such incidents do not recur in the future. The armed forces should play an active role in restoring peace, maintaining law and order, and protecting the democratic rights of every citizen. Only through prompt action can we uphold the values of democracy and safeguard individuals’ freedom to express their political preferences without fear or intimidation.

Additionally, it is important to note that this incident is not an isolated case. There have been numerous instances where DMK workers have resorted to violence and intimidation in an attempt to install their party as the ruling power in Tamil Nadu. It is disheartening that such acts, including the killing of individuals for voting for the BJP, have become alarmingly common.

What adds to the concern is the lack of significant attention and action from both the central government and the president regarding these events. The failure to address these issues promptly raises questions about their commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring a secure environment for citizens exercising their right to vote.

It is crucial for the authorities at all levels to acknowledge and take decisive action against such incidents, as they pose a serious threat not only to democracy but also to human lives. Upholding justice and safeguarding democratic principles should be paramount in order to prevent further escalation of violence and protect citizens’ rights.
