Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has disclosed his assets, including investments in the stock market, mutual funds, and bank deposits, amounting to over Rs 20 crore. This declaration encompasses both movable and immovable assets, alongside liabilities amounting to about Rs 49.7 lakh. Rahul Gandhi, who filed his nomination for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Kerala’s Wayanad, where he currently serves as a sitting MP, submitted an affidavit detailing his financial holdings.

According to the affidavit, Rahul Gandhi’s investments include stock market holdings worth Rs 4.3 crore, mutual fund deposits totaling Rs 3.81 crore, and a bank account balance of Rs 26.25 lakh. Additionally, he disclosed cash holdings of Rs 55,000 and reported a total income of Rs 1,02,78,680 (Rs 1.02 crore) for the financial year 2022-23.

In addition to financial investments, Rahul Gandhi also holds gold bonds valued at Rs 15.2 lakh and investments in National Savings Schemes, Postal Savings, and insurance policies, with a combined worth of Rs 61.52 lakh. The affidavit also lists jewellery assets valued at Rs 4.2 lakh.

The total value of Rahul Gandhi’s movable assets is reported to be Rs 9.24 crore, while his immovable property is estimated at around Rs 11.14 crore. This brings his total assets to over Rs 20 crore, as per the details provided with his nomination.

However, it raises eyebrows as to how an MP can accumulate such wealth solely through salary income.

Rahul Gandhi submitted his nomination following a grand roadshow in his constituency, accompanied by senior party leaders, including his sister Priyanka Gandhi and Congress general secretary KC Venugopal. He is poised to contest against senior CPI leader Annie Raja and BJP’s Kerala president K Surendran in Wayanad, a seat he won in 2019 with a substantial margin of over four lakh votes.

Kerala will undergo single-phase polling to elect MPs for its 20 Lok Sabha seats on April 26. In the outgoing House, the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) holds sway with 19 MPs from the state.
