Union Home Minister Amit Shah criticized West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), accusing her of misleading the public.
Addressing a rally in West Bengal’s Balurghat, Shah affirmed, “We have enacted the CAA law. Mamata didi is deceiving the people of Bengal by claiming that applying for CAA will result in loss of citizenship. I urge refugees to apply for citizenship under CAA, assuring no issues will arise.” Shah continued, “Regardless of Mamata didi’s opposition, we will grant citizenship to all refugees.”

Further targeting the Trinamool Congress chief, Shah emphasized the need to strengthen Bengal. He highlighted the infiltration issue in West Bengal, asserting that without addressing it, the state cannot progress. Shah accused Banerjee of harboring infiltrators as her core vote bank, implying her reluctance to curb infiltration.
Shah proclaimed that only PM Narendra Modi and a BJP government in West Bengal could effectively tackle infiltration. He urged voters to elect BJP in Bengal for transformative change, promising to halt infiltration.

Shah boasted of stopping infiltration in Assam and assured similar action in Bengal if BJP secures over 30 seats and forms the state government. With polling ongoing for 42 seats across seven phases, the outcome remains crucial. In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, Trinamool Congress won 22 seats, BJP secured 18, and Congress clinched two, with the counting scheduled for June 4.
