The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has formally lodged a complaint with Delhi Lt Governor V K Saxena against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of unauthorized use of power and authority. This comes after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) claimed that Kejriwal issued directives for the functioning of the Delhi government while in custody of the Enforcement Directorate.
The directives were reportedly issued to Water Minister Atishi and Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, instructing them to address complaints related to water and sewer issues and ensure the availability of medicines in all mohalla clinics across the city.
The BJP’s complaint to the Lt Governor has sparked discussions about the next course of action, including whether the Centre will intervene before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to assert control over Delhi’s administration. Government sources indicate that various departments are seeking legal opinions on the matter.
BJP national secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa, in the complaint, questioned the authenticity of the directives issued by Kejriwal while in custody and demanded an investigation into the matter. He emphasized that Kejriwal lacks the legal authority to issue such directives without court permission and called for appropriate action, including the registration of an FIR.
Responding to the BJP’s accusations, the AAP stated that Kejriwal’s arrest was politically motivated and aimed at diverting attention from other issues, including alleged financial irregularities within the BJP. The party highlighted the controversy surrounding electoral bond donations and accused the BJP of attempting to shift focus from the matter.
The AAP reiterated its stance that Kejriwal will continue to serve as Chief Minister despite the legal challenges he faces. It cited past instances where ministers continued to hold office despite legal troubles.
Meanwhile, sources suggest that both the AAP and the Centre are exploring constitutional provisions regarding Delhi’s governance. The possibility of imposing President’s rule in Delhi is being considered, which could potentially lead to legal and political battles.
While the AAP may use this situation to garner public support and challenge the Centre’s actions in court, legal experts are examining the implications of Article 239AB and its applicability to Delhi’s governance structure.
Overall, the dispute between the BJP and AAP over Kejriwal’s directives underscores the ongoing political tensions in Delhi, with significant implications for the upcoming elections and the broader governance of the national capital.
