Call for Government Mandate: Bengaluru Residents Advocate Work from Home Amid Water Crisis

The persistent water crisis gripping Bengaluru continues to pose challenges for its residents, as limited water availability disrupts daily life. Many Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) have already implemented regulations, urging residents to curtail water usage due to inadequate supply.

Why the Push for Work from Home?

On social media platforms, users are advocating for work from home arrangements to enable employees to return to their hometowns. They are also urging authorities to mandate this practice, at least until the city’s water woes are addressed.

One user, Naveen Kopparam, emphasized the need for IT organizations in Bengaluru to implement a 90-day work from home policy amidst the ongoing water crisis.

The renowned social media weather blogger known as the ‘Bengaluru Weatherman’ shared grim forecasts, predicting no rainfall for the next month. Given the scorching temperatures and severe water scarcity in Bengaluru, coupled with the absence of significant rain prospects, he urged the Government of Karnataka to consider the work from home option until the monsoon arrives.

Similarly, the HSR Layout Residents group urged IT companies to embrace remote working arrangements for the well-being of their employees. Highlighting the worsening water situation in Bengaluru, they stressed the necessity for immediate action.

However, some skeptics questioned the feasibility of implementing such measures, suggesting it could adversely impact the city’s thriving real estate market.

User Preetam Rao expressed skepticism, suggesting that companies declaring a work from home policy for three to six months could prompt people to leave the city, potentially leading to a decline in the real estate sector. Despite the potential benefits, Rao believes such a move is unlikely to materialize, leaving residents to grapple with the ongoing crisis.
